Therapy Rates
Philosophy and Approach
My aim is to make therapy as transparent and accessible as possible while also keeping it sustainable for me.
I use an adapted version of the equity-focused Green Bottle Method, originally developed by Alexis J. Cunningfolk (2015), to help with identifying which tier best describes your financial situation.
I mainly operate on an honor system; I trust that you know your financial situation best and can choose the tier that is most workable for you. However, if you are having trouble choosing between tiers I am happy to assist with that as part of the consultation and intake process. Below are descriptions of each tier:
Rate Tiers

Detailed Descriptions
Rate Tiers
Sustainable Tier
$150/session
6 slots/week
You’re financially stable. Although finances may still require some intention to ensure you’re living within your means, the day-to-day pressure of survival isn’t part of your life. Therapy is one of several things you can afford for your wellbeing.
This tier applies if:
-
You own a home or have stable, long-term housing.
-
You’ve received financial support from family, like help with tuition, housing, vehicle, etc.
-
You have an emergency fund covering at least three to six months of expenses.
-
You could take an annual vacation, eat out regularly, and afford the occasional larger purchase without going into debt.
-
You may have employer-provided healthcare with reasonable co-pays, paid time off, and retirement contributions.
-
You’re on track with debt repayment and are not carrying significant high-interest debt.
-
You have some discretionary income for self-care, fitness, or other forms of personal investment.
-
Therapy fits in your monthly budget without sacrifices.
Steady Tier
$120/Session
4 slots/week
You have a steady job and enough margin to handle most of life’s small surprises without scrambling. You’re not getting ahead, but you’re not falling behind either. Therapy is something you can budget for, with planning. You also may have some financial or structural support behind you.
This tier applies if:
-
You live in a dual-income household or have a salary that covers both needs and modest wants.
-
You can budget for occasional, modest vacations (a road trip, a weekend away). You can eat out regularly & invest in occasional extras like a gym membership or classes.
-
You’re repaying student loans, a mortgage, or car payments, but none feel overwhelming. You’re not adding new debt to make ends meet.
-
If you were to lose your job, you could sustain your life for about three months by tightening up.
-
A $400 car repair is stressful but doesn’t put you in crisis.
-
You can afford basic healthcare and don’t routinely skip appointments due to cost.
-
You have a small emergency fund, though no significant savings or investments yet.
-
Therapy fits in your budget with intentional choices about how you spend.
Supported Tier I
$90/Session
3 slots/week
You’re doing the best you can with a limited financial margin. You may earn too much to qualify for
assistance, but not enough to feel secure. Therapy is a commitment, and likely means giving something else up to make it happen.
This tier applies if:
-
You have steady income but little to no extra at the end of each month.
-
You rely on a single income or support others financially (e.g., kids, aging parents).
-
If you were to lose your job, you would need to find new income within a month.
-
Your support system cannot offer financial assistance.
-
You may carry high-interest credit card debt, medical bills, and/or lingering student loans.
-
Vacations are rare or involve staying with family/splitting with others to reduce costs.
-
Dining out, self-care, or even medical appointments are delayed or carefully rationed.
-
Therapy is an important investment, but requires budgeting, planning, or sacrifice.
Supported Tier II
$60/Session
2 slots/week
You’re living with heavy financial stress. Your income may be hourly, unsteady, or just enough to cover the essentials. The gap between what you need and what you have feels constant. Choosing therapy means choosing it over things many people consider basic, and the choice costs you.
This tier applies if:
-
You work hourly, do gig work, or in a job (or multiple jobs) without guaranteed hours, sick days, or paid time off.
-
You’re often one unexpected bill away from real crisis (a car breakdown, a medical co-pay, or a rent increase).
-
If you were to lose your job, you would be in crisis within two weeks.
-
You haven’t taken a vacation in years, or vacations mean staying with family.
-
You carry high-interest debt, unpaid medical bills, or past-due balances.
-
You may rely on assistance programs, food benefits, or community support to make ends meet.
-
Healthcare access depends on Medicaid, a community clinic, or going without.
-
Therapy is a sacrifice you’re making because you know you need it.

I also offer one financial hardship slot of $30-$50/session to existing clients who, while working with me, experience a new financial hardship such as losing their job or an unexpected surgery/hospital stay.

In addition, I welcome any who wish to fund additional reduced fee slots to pay a Funder rate of $180+ per 60-minute session. My commitment here is that every dollar beyond $150/session will go toward bridging the gap between what a client can afford and what my lowest open tier is. (For example: if all my $60/session slots are already full but a client can only afford $60, if I have a funder providing an extra $30 per session, that would enable that client to access therapy with me for $90/session.)
If the tier that is your best match is full when we begin working together, we can also discuss whether the next highest would be workable at first, with the aim of bringing your rate down once a spot opens up.
